MSgt Thacker joined the facility on 14 Jul 08, serving as crew chief and completing his MOS training on approach control. After completing an individual augment assignment to Afghanistan from 13 Oct 09 to 8 Sep 10, MSgt Thacker headed a team to improve the use of tower simulators. He assumed duties as Staff NCOIC on 18 Feb 11 and was promoted to his present rank on 1 Jun 11.

Enlisted in the Marine Corps on 15 Dec 1991. After graduating Platoon 1024, Charlie Company, Parris Island SC., he reported to Military Police School at Lackland AFB, San Antonio TX. MSgt Thacker was recognized as Honor Graduate of his class and was thereafter assigned for duty at 2DMARDIV Camp Lejeune, NC. After a stint as a filed MP, MSgt Thacker PCA’d to MCB and became a patrol supervisor, Desk Sergeant and later began OJT as a criminal investigator.

In Dec 1995, MSgt Thacker EAS’d out of the Marine Corps and fell for the “grass is greener” scam. He quickly found out after 2 years and 4 months of frustration as a civilian that the grass had a lot of slippery brown stuff in it.

MSgt Thacker Re-reenlisted into the Marine Corps again in April of 1998 and began a new career in ATC. After graduating ATC school in Pensacola FL in the summer of 1998, he began his initial MOS training at MCAS New River.

2008-2009: MCAS Cherry Point (Crew Officer / Approach Controller)

2009-2010: MARCENT, Air Space manager, Personnel Recovery and Joint Terminal Attack Control Manager in the Combined Joint Operations Center , Regional Command South, Kandahar Afghanistan.
